m15x Pricing

Ok, for the past couple of months I've been admiring the new m15x, but due to some options I'm not liking I've yet to pull the trigger. Every week or so I login to the Alienware website and configure out my favorite components and check to see if those components I'm looking for have been added yet (primarily an LED LCD option at 1920x1200). Well, I've noticed over the past month the price for the same exact components has gone from a little over $2300 to $2889.

I just can't put my finger on which components really went up that much in price individually because I never paid attention. Here's what I have configured:

15.4" 1920x1200 Screen
8800m GTX Card
T9300
1GB Memory
Intel 1GB Turbo Memory
120GB 7200RPM Drive
Dual Layer DVD Burner/BluRay Reader

haha.. just did the configuration again and it's $2749. Weird.

if u click on components before the entire page loads it then the price is not added to the total which could have happened... if you get the t9300 with all that it will cost 2700 bucks and not 2300...

Ways to save money: reducing screen resolution and not getting a Blu-Ray drive.

I'd personally wait until Blu-Ray drives go down in price before getting one, and I'm doing the same for SSDs.

The 1920x1200 screen is overkill for a 15" monitor. If you do want to watch things in HD, 780p resolution is more than detailed enough for a 15.4" monitor, and you can still output 1080p to a TV or external monitor.

I agree with Koshin, go woth the 780p. It will be better on the eyes.

I don't disagree about the screen resolution, but I'm really wanting 1080 on the display for bluray playback while mobile.

Secondly, the BluRay player is a must. I won't skimp on that option.

720p is still much better than DVD quality and I HIGHLY doubt you'd notice the difference on a 15.4" monitor.

I've seen bluray drives available for much less than AW charges.

1920 x 1200 on a 15".....
That's torture for your eyes. I always have to strain my eyes on my 17" laptop with 1920 x 1200!!!!
But it'd be cool to see things in high resolution.... (Crysis)

I wouldnt buy a blue-ray for a laptop... instead you could buy a blueray at like bestbuy for less money and hook it up to ur tv and have a bigger screen to watch it on... watching a movie on a 15 inch is not that great even on a 17 inch I dont like doing it...

I can't carry a 50" television with me on the road. :P

Yeah, but it's also very taxing on the system as a whole. I didn't mind 1920x1200 on my XPS Gen 2. I just hated the brightness level on that lappy. I never could get it to produce enough brightness to satisfy me. But that was a 17" screen.

Oh well, I'm still waiting for an LED LCD option so until then...

Good call on the UXGA screen. just need to change windows default DPI and everything is fine. I also cannot wait to see Crysis on this bad boy at UXGA

but i have to say, i'd hold back on the Blu-Ray drive. This is coming from a guy who spent the $1000 for a blu-ray player on launch day (the first Samsung)

The m15x has a swappable optical drive, its designed for on the fly optical drive changes and does not require you to open the notebook, manually install, and void the warranty. It just pops in. I'm personally waiting for he BD RW to take a big drop in price, but i also really need a PC BD-ROM for ripping Blu-Rays for my iPod/HTC Touch...

blue-ray is overrated in my opinion...an upconvert dvd player works just a good and is alot cheaper... dont see the point in a laptop when your looking at a 15 inch screen...

1. Get the lower resolution unless you are doing alot of photo editing. If you are mainly gaming get the 1440x900.
2.You don't need the Intel 1GB Turbo Memory.
3.Don't get the bluray burner yet. You can upgrade later on when it's much cheaper.
4.IMO, you should upgrade your harddrive. You'll need more space than that for all your movies and games.
