Fan blows hard, then pauses, blows hard, then pauses?

Thread Starter
I am using I8kfangui, and it makes it so my GPU and CPU NEVER hit past 80c. However, when the fan goes full blast, it does so and then pauses for a split second, then starts back up, etc. I heard this is because of the BIOS not allowing it to stay full blast constantly. Does this hurt my fan? And can I stop this? Thanks.

It's fighting your BIOS, nothing you can do about it.

Yup, get used to it!

... it drives me crazy too. I just got an antec wedge cooler instead. I don't even use the i8k fan controls with this new lappy.

You have to seting the timer down to 50ms. I don't have my lappy with me, but if you set below 50ms, and it helps.

Not true.

Silversaver is correct. You need to change the "fan setting enforcement" in the "display options" tab of the main option page.

Try changing it to around 50ms and see how you go...that's where I have mine set at.

You could also make sure that you don't have i8k set to turn the fan on AND off at the same temperature, have the reset set to about 10 degrees lower difference.

i8k won't let you do that, it gives a warning and doesnt let you keep those settings.

That's what I do, but for some reason, you take a small performance hit. I ran SuperPI and it gave me a 2 second difference beween the 2 fan settings.

Yea...that's been discussed quite a few times with those settings impacting performance...more so when the 9300/9400 were mainstream.
