Geforce 9800m gx2 1gb

When will this video card be out and will it be 25% or more faster then the geforce 8800m?

I think this technolgy will be in Dell lappy soon, but dunno when. It is without SLI bridge, so it probably better for people trying to running 2 GPUs and running dual screens. With SLI enable, it will not run dual screen.

Well there goes my 3D'06 record.

If there even is a GeForce 9800M chip, it's going to be basically the exact same GPU as the 8800M, possibly with more shaders, but nothing more. The device ID of the 9800M GTX has already shown up, and it's a G92 card, just like the 8800M.

There won't be a GX2 1GB version. Sorry, not going to happen. If anything, you'll see 2 GTX's in SLI mode.

Just hopeing they will use 2 GPU without SLI to support dual screens in SLI mode.

Im waiting for Quad core CPU's to hit notebooks, then ill make a new purchase. And whatever vid card they have in by then I'll go with that.

But like Fennuxx said, its the same gift, just in different wrapping.

The 9800m will come with a new motherboard and cpu will this make it at least 10% faster then 8800m?

Sure, but that's changing the entire system out. Again, the chips are going to be exactly the same, it's just dependent on whether or not NVIDIA unlocks more stream processors (unified shaders) in the 9800M (which I think they would...). Other than that, there will be absolutely no difference, besides clockspeeds. In reality, you'd be better off waiting for a GT200-based mobile card (GeForce GTX 260/280M) as it's not going to be a worthwhile upgrade from the 8800M, especially for what it would cost.

I mean even in desktops, the 9 series runs very similarly to the predecessor 8800GTS/GT. In many cases, the price point benefit of the "last generation" cards outweighs the extra performance going from the 8 series to 9 series.

I think waiting for the GT200 series of cards will be more optimal, although it's gonna burn straight through the laptop case

I think it'll be better if NVIDIA launches with the 55nm process, rather than 65nm. It won't run as hot and use as much power. As it stands, the 65nm version just wouldn't work in a laptop.

Unfortunately the 9 series is just a refresher of the 8 series. Nvidia probably should have skipped 9 series and concentrated on a mobile 10 series card as the next gen cards from both nvidia and ati are going to be a big jump in performance. ATIs next gen solution actually might be better suited for laptops over nvidias "bigger and hotter" thinking. I think the desktop cards come out at the end of the summer.

Desktop cards (next series) will be coming out early summer, within the next month.

I'm interested in seeing how well ATI's Mobility Radeon 3800 series does. It could be a factor in determining whether ATI's still in the game as far as high-end mobile graphics goes. nVidia's been demolishing their lineup for some time.

I agree, it would be a nice change of pace seeing ATI putting more time into their high end mobile cards instead of just Nvidia dominating

Yeah I saw they just announced it. Isn't the 3800 series the competitor to the 8800 series? They are almost a generation behind.

I'm pretty sure it is. Kinda late to the party again. If they don't sell well, it could lead ATI to drop out of high end graphics cards period. That's what I'm worried about.

Agreed though I think a potential 2900 series mobile card was scrapped due to heat concerns. After the Mobility Radeon 9800 came out it's been all downhill for them.

True, I think I saw an ATI 2600 in an HP but still thats only a midrange card. Its sad too because the 9 series is just a rehash of the 8 series, I really hope ATI has some monster card hidden up their sleeve.

+1

I used to be a big ATI fan, however IMHO Nvidia has been doing pretty well.

Im routing for ATI simply for a change of pace.
