Ok. I am confused. I reloaded my XPS finally (got tired of the dell build). I used the instructions from this forum. And the drivers. I used Vista Ult wSP1 builtin. I used LV2G driver 175.8 which got decent reviews on their site. SP1 apparantly includes the sli patch as it said I didnt need it when I tried to apply it.

Ran 3DMark. and got under 9K?
Help please..

Did you make sure that SLI is turned on in the Nvidia control panel?

Disable SLI, and run 3DMark06 and see what the score is.

1st Please do this, this is very common.

Disable SLI in the control panel. Reboot.
Go to device manager, and remove the hardware.
Reboot (make sure that when you come back up, the screen resolution is 800x600 this will make it evident that the driver was infact removed). If iy's not, the driver was not removed properly and the system is still using it. This is less a problem with Vista, but XP sometimes hangs on to the driver.

Install your new driver.

Reboot
Go to your NvidiaControl panel, and enable sli. (Reboot even if it doesn't aks to)
After you reboot, make sure to go into the Nvidia Control Panel, and make sure that SLI is on.

If it is, run the bench and report back. As stated before, make sure that your power options are set to max performance. Don't run any other programs while running the bench. Do not OC the card yet.

Good Luck.

What new driver should I use?

I would use the Dell special drivers. Then you can get an accurate comparison with most people here.

I am using 175.16 on my XPS M1730 with Dual 8700GTs (the 8800M was no available when I bought mine and I am still waiting for the upgrade to be announcecd) with SLI enabled and I get 8881 in 3DMark2006 so I know SLI works on that driver.

I am using the laptopvideo2go 175.16 with my 1730 with dual 8800GTX's and get 12,200 in 3Dmark06 with cpu at 2.8ghz.. cpu is the X7900.. overclocked to 3.4 i get a score of 13,558 in 3Dmark06.. the 175.16 is a very fast and stable driver for the 8800's.. i recommend these. P/S, i am using winxp pro with sp3, vista drives me nutts and slows all my games down.. i think the gaming performance is much improved on the M1730 using XP Pro..

thanks to everyone for their suggestions. My 3dMark is almost 11K under Vista SP1. I just need to get 4 gig of ram for it, I think that will help.

I tested a loaner M1730 using the Quadro 175.75 1600m drivers (R189071, released on 6/10/08). This M1730 has the 8700 SLI with T7700 C2D. No OCing. Running Vista 64.

3DMark06 is 8558 - too bad I have to disable SLI everytime I want to play TF2.

Looking forward to my new M1730 arriving.
