P-6860fx shuts down while playing games on battery

Hello,

I just got this laptop a few days ago, I love it..sadly ive been having a problem with it.

When im playing games while on battery the laptop will just shut down without anywarning, without the battery running out. To turn it on back again i need to plug the AC adapter in and start it. Then I can just plug it out and keep using the laptop for 20-30 mins (that means the battery wasn't drained).

So far ive only seen one user report this issue on another forum, noone else... According to the gateway support guy, this is because the 8800gts draws way too much power and the battery can't handle it so it shuts down

Im wondering if any of you guys have had similar issues, im thinking of just returning it and get a new one (still on my 14 day exchange window), but I dont wanna do it knowing that its a widespead issue since I already installed 20gbs worth of games on it

Thanks

i am sure that the issue of shutting down while on battery and whil playing games can happen to any brands, any models. Having said that:
. tune ur system up a bit? (clean up excesses like uneeded processes and services)
. review ur power setting
. disable hibernation while playing game
. disable disk indexing
. review ur AV,
. making sure that the area where u play is well ventilated
. new thermal paste (doing this will void ur warranty)
. try different battery
. ???

cheers ...

well the system is just a few days old lol.... so I don't see the problem there... (tuning wise)

power settings are not interfering since ive got it set to hibernate and this is just a hard shut down, like if it had no battery and you would just unplug it.

heating is not a problem since this temps are very well within their limits..

I dont have another battery lol

Try recalibrating the battery (run the on battery until it dies, recharge completely while turned off). Did you do a clean install or are you still using the factory config?

Well I have the same model, I have had that happen to me also. Since i got the laptop to play games on when I go to friends' houses I have always plugged it in ever since the first time it happened. I guess that is the price we pay when we want a nice Video card in our Laptop. I set my whole puter to be in classic mode so as to use the least amount of resources. I can care less what it looks like while on & all the EYE CANDY that comes with Vista etc is not worth it to me to have it all running. Uses less power/ resources.
It's either that or I pack up my whole desk top to tote it around when I go to a friends to play. The power cord wins!!! I will live with it!! Jason
