low end "gaming" machine - suggestions wanted - Page 2

You're buying the retail version of the cpu, so there should be a heatsink/fan included in the box. If you don't go crazy overclocking, the stock heatsink should be fine. That'll save a little.

Looks like a good setup to me. Enjoy it

If you do go 3rd party heatsink, make sure to pick up some AS5 for an extra $5

Sorry I missed this thread - been dealing with RL issues.
Looks like a solid build. I can't get over the price of DDR2 these days.

Yeah DDR2 is amazing recently especially since it's really still top of the line to some extent.

Hope everything in RL is going okay Buck

was kinda cool, that PSU pdonket posted turned out to have a $15 promotion/coupon code on it (EMCAGAFCC -if anyone else wants one for $40), combine that with free shipping (the earthwatts 430 was ~$10 shipping) and the $15 instant rebate and $40 mir and they were the same price after all discounts. love getting better gear for the same price.

if that means you want to see pics, I'll have to snap some of the finished build. we installed the PSU tonight, and made sure it would post & configured the BIOS settings. will install the OS tomorrow night.

The PSU screw holes didn't [quite] line up with the holes in the case, I had to "open 'em up a bit" with the trusty dremel. Otherwise the OS would be installed already. working 12 hr days sux sometimes.

Doc your setup looks great. I know you said you just want bang for the buck, but you could keep the rig potent for a longer period and have slightly more upgradeability if you got a 1333 mhz fsb core 2 cpu/mobo. Of course that would probably run you about a hundred bucks extra for a 3ghz chip and board. Nevermind, just looked to hit reply and I saw you are already building the rig.
