I have this exact same laptop. Got mine last week.

I originally ordered the P172S FX, but the screen on it was terrible (washed out, bad viewing angles)

I returned that notebook and made the decision to take the full plunge and get the 172X fx

SO glad I did, it is a beast, and the 1920x1200 screen looks fantastic! It handles Age of Conan well at default res, and most options up.

My last laptop was an Inspiron 9300 that was modded to take a 7800GTX... the C2D cpu and 8800GTS blows it away.

Very nice laptop. Grats on making a great purchase

I just got the P-172S FX on 6.27. It has Status Indicators under the touch-pad. The DVD drive indicator keeps flashing. There is No media in slot! Does anyone know if this is normal? I am used to the HD flashing, but this DVD/CD light constantly flashing is annoying! When the (DVD/CD) drive is in use, it has a full light. When not in use it flashes & flashes & flashes! Never stops.....

I called G/W tech & they said that it was normal. I am thinking there is something going on & it isn't good! I have very little time to return this laptop, even though it is gorgeous!

This is my 1st laptop, so I guess G/W tech can tell me anything! How's it gonna hurt them?!

Thx to anyone who can give me help - grandma

take a look into ur startup processes and see if u can disable something relating to the optical drive (nero, windvd ...) - if u have any, first. Also check if u have auto insert notification on.

cheers ...

Thx! G/W did give me half the answer to the problem. Hold Fn & toggle F1 to turn off all of the Status lights. This also turns off the Mutimedia controls at the top of the board! THX - G/W!
G/W also stated the the blinking optical drive light was only there when the ac adapter was being used. My ac Adapter is 2 rooms away from me & not in use! Still, the opt. drive blink, blink,blink........sending a message to a planet far away.
BTW, auto insert already off- don't even know what else is going on with this machine as I have not had much time to check out all....
Hope some of you other guys have better luck with your orders.
Peace out!

OK - now g/w has thrown down the gauntlet & said return the unit-the unit needs servicing! (can copy the e-mail to anyone concerned)Opps - servicing - for their incompetant c..p? I have to pay $44. for them to send me box/info to return the nb to service! I have 7 days left on the 15 day return policy, but g/w c/s says that is over with! (by the time I get the box/return info & send the unit back, 15 days gone!) I just received this unit on 6.27! How 'fair' is that policy?! c/s said that they are 'sure' g/w will send a replacement for my unit IF the repair is not satisfiable!

I am really scared about what I will get back from g/w!

I am really happy that on 7.04 my attorney was at my house for bar-b-cue. She said that she had never seen such fine print(in g/w e-mail)! LOL!

Other than this problem I have not found any others. BUT, I have not loaded or tested anything else since the 1st day I received this unit!
Anyone else got anythin' to say? I will say, beside this opt. drive constant blinking prob., that this unit is a jewel!
Be Happy-but be careful!

Is it just my computer or is it every time "grandma" post the letters get bigger?

And an update on my machine, it is still in the mail and en route, so hopefully its just a few more days.

UPDATE: My computer has still not arrived, so I believe it was "jacked" from the mail, the issue is I am in Iraq and once the mail leaves the states it is taken over by the military. so now I have to try to track it down, I know it made it to Mosul so I will have to start there.
