X9000 in a P-172X, can it be done?

The P-172X FX I ordered has a T8300 in it, I did some research on Intel.com and I was looking at the compatible processors for the PM965 Chipset and it doesn't even show the T8300 as being compatible.

My question is, the X9000 processor "should" work shouldn't it? But wouldn't the X9000 require different bio's?

This P-6831 on ebay has the PM965 and X9000.

*edit* I forgot to say that the P-172X in question is a FX edition.

general speaking chipset PM/GM965 shoud support the X9000. I also heard that using PM965 gives vendors more flexibility in packing in higher performance CPUs.

having said that, the menitoned P-6831 carries PM965 chipset, and urs P-172X comes with GM965.

my 2 u.s. cents: probably works, bios might need to be involved, as u stated. But for a 600$ CPU to get an extra .3ghz?

cheers ...

I wouldn't get it now, I would wait for the price to drop but isnt the extreme series made for over clocking? I read that some of the XPS guys have them at 3.4
