Sony Not Supporting Service Pack 3 XP

Just as a FYI
I emailed Sony on June 4th detailing a problem where the Intel Centrino Processor Technology Test Utility (ctcenu14.exe)
does not run after XP SP3, with an error message of : The verification tool is not supported on this operating system.

Since the Intel Processor Identification Utility (procid.exe) does work correctly after XP SP3, Intel advised me that it must be
something in the Sony OEM that is causing the Test Utility to throw that error.

I received a reply from Sony as follows :
"I'm sorry for the difficulty you're experiencing after installing XP Service Pack 3.
Sony doesn't support XP Service Pack 3. I suggest that you contact Microsoft"

My thoughts on Sony are not for this forum where we are fortunate that help is offered and advice is given. If only Sony would do the same.

going by ur sig and avatar about ur machine, i can surely say that whoever answered ur mail was not well informed. SP3 can be updated with no issue on any XP SP2 sony comps. We r talking about a service pack that includes previous fixes already being out there.

I think that you must have mis-read what I wrote.

I never said that XP SP3 could not be updated onto a Sony VAIO -
I wrote that Sony support informed me that Sony were not supporting
the SP3 service pack.

not at all, i read i it correctly, but my reply was to the statement of ""I'm sorry for the difficulty you're experiencing after installing XP Service Pack 3. Sony doesn't support XP Service Pack 3. I suggest that you contact Microsoft"

It implied that whoever answered u was wrong/misinformed regarding what support Sony does to its machines. There is nowhere in writing that Sony requires any SPs when working with XP

Well, it doesn't matter now.
This morning I chatted with Sony Support online and here is the outcome :

John Jackson > Can you please tell me if Sony have changed their plans and are now supporting XP Service Pack 3?
Mat_ > I'm happy to inform you that Sony recommends to install XP service pack 3.
John Jackson > So by recommending it. does that mean it is supported also?
Mat_ > Yes, that's correct.

He also said that he was not aware of any Sony Knowledge Base artice about it, but I would suggest that everyone checks
the Sony Support Site at some stage, just in case Sony do produce an article and have some process that they advise must be run in conjunction with SP3
