Hi all,
I have an older Sony laptop that I bought from Circuit City (hereafter CC). I bought it with the infamous 4-year warranty, and since it developed a defective firewire port. I never use the port, so I just took it as a free ticket to have the laptop repaired/replaced whenever it becomes convenient for me.
So here we are, nearing the end of the warranty, and I have a plan: have the laptop sent back in for repair and pray that they do not have any old VAIO S360 motherboards lying around, and that they opt to replace it.
I'm not sure exactly how the replacements work. I expect that they would let me choose something of equal or lesser value (based on the amount on my receipt) from their store inventory.
I would then need to find something that I can sell back on ebay or the likes and purchase a macbook with the money, since CC does not sell mac products anymore.
Before I send off my laptop, does anyone have any experience with this? From previous experiences, how likely do we think it is that they will be able to actually repair the thing? Any tips for how to deal with them? (I have heard that the warranty is an absolute scam and you can get severely burned by these people.)
(haha I just noticed that my signature still has my laptop's specs in it... so old -__-)
