Vista and external USB keyboard performance

Thread Starter
I'm using 64 bit Vista on my Asus laptop with an external USB keyboard - a Saitek Eclipse II. I used it for months on my old XP lappy with no problems.

With Vista, the performance of the keyboard is terrible. Sometimes it works OK, sometimes it doesn't. My main gripe is the repeat rate - it's as slow as hell, even with the speed setting at max. I've even tried upping the value for keyboard speed in the registry, seems to make no difference. My laptop keyboard seems to work much faster, although my repeat rate was way faster in XP.

Also, sometimes I'll see weird things happen while typing, especially it seems while typing in small input boxes like search fields (for instance, the CTRL-F find function in IE and Firefox). I'll type and nothing happens, then 20 letters will spit out at once. It's all very annoying.

Other times everything will work fine. It's driving me nuts. I've Googled this to death and it seems tons of people are having Vista keyboard related problems, but nothing seems to work for me.

Anyone else having issues with external keyboards?
