E1705 being replaced: what would I get?

Hi guys,
My E1705 (T2500 2.0ghz / 1gb 667mhz / 1900x1280 / 80gb HDD / 7900 gs) has had numerous problems and Dell agreed to replace the system today. I haven't caught up with recent developments in Dell laptop systems.
I am just curious what kind of replacement system I would get considering this model is not on the market any more. I would greatly appreciate any helpful comments.
Thanks!!!
HJ

Not 100% sure, but you could get a 1730 with a single 8700.

EDIT: I just checked outlet, and there are two available, however none of them have a 7900.

Should get a M1730 8700GT sli or single

Will get a 1720 8600GT.

...or a vostro 1700 8600m gt (which is the same as the 1720)

You will have to beg and plead and fight and call numerous times to get what you deserve.

Is 1720 8600GT that worse than E1705 7900gs?

It is by a small margin, worse, than the 7900GS. To be honest, it is by no means a major downgrade.

You should give dell a call and find out for sure.

I had an e1705 w/ similar specs and I received an XPS M1710

M1710 specs - t2600, 2gb ram, 120gb 7200rpm hd, 7900 gtx

There are literally tons of m1710's in the outlet right, like about 60 w/ t7600 7950gtx and blu ray, maybe you'll get one of those

Thanks for the reply, republic07!!!

Is M1710 a nicer machine than E1705? How would M1710 stack up against 1720 with 8600GT or 1730 with 8700GT?
the m1710 is the XPS version of the e1705... literally the same chasis (different colors) and takes the same hardware but has higher end parts. It is better than the 1720 and the 1730 with the 8700GT (but maybe not the 1730 with 8700 GT SLI)
no problem, hope you get an awesome system.

The 8600 gt sucks pretty bad compared to the 7900gs.

If you argue that the change of 7900gs to 8600gs is a downgrade, would Dell representatives understand it?

usually the regular reps will not, you would have to escalate the case

Finally, I see some change in the service call status.

223-3102XPS M1730, 2.8G XE 4M MEROM1
310-9525PERSONALIZATION SHIELD, LCD COLOR WING O1

This is all that I can see as of now. Seems like I may get M1730 as a replacement.
I think "2.8G XE 4M MEROM" is a cpu. Would you guys please let me know what kind of cpu this is?

I also don't know how to interpret the second line of the part information. What is "PERSONALIZATION SHIELD, LCD COLOR WING O" ?

Other than this, I don't see any other information.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments!

Because I started this thread, I feel responsible to share with you guys on what replacement I received from Dell. I've got a very nice machine from Dell.

XPS M1730, X9000 (2.8GB, L2 6MB), 4GB, HDD 320GB, Dual SLI 8700GT, etc.

This one seems a brand new one. i don't see a refurbished sticker at the bottom. The battery was also manufactured only one month ago in Japan. Given my original specs, I can hardly believe what dell sent me (probably this excessive upgrade occurred because the defective one gave electric shocks... not sure, though...... They may have taken it very seriously). My CC will expire in a few months and I can't extend it any more. I hope this machine will be solid and last long time. Thank everyone who provided helpful comments on this thread.

M1730 is a really beautiful machine!!
