I just got off the phone with the gaming dept. at MicroCenter. They pulled the retail boxes off the shelves and returned them to distro. New boxes should be in on the 4th or 5th (retail release now officially pushed back to the 5th).

Scratch that - retail and Steam release is now pushed back to Sept 15th. Its also available for pre-purchase on Steam ($39.99).

This is a bummer.....still,wouldn't be Stalker without delays.....developers/publishers need to give the cd key/secure rom thing a bit of a miss imo, never has and never will stop people pirating games and is just annoying to legit buyers as problems seem to be becoming more and more common with all the anti pirate crap.

Looking forward to those weapon accuracy upgrades though.

CD keys are usually effective enough in keeping people from playing the online multiplayer for free in my experience. So, for that reason, I guess they're here to stay.

Wal-Mart has about 10 copies of this on the shelf and I almost bough one but I don't know if there would be a cd-key in the game and someone never answered my text so I am just holding off for now.

Thats probably true, but its not stopping pirating in general, neither are the
disc based security measures that can be such a PITA.....I for one don't look forward to "having to have" Steam type viral/adware applications for every game I play.

Are there some copy's that don't have this issue ?....you could always do other Wal-Mart customers a service buying it,opening it up in the store and letting them know its missing the manual/cd key.

As soon as you guys get post a quick review/impression. I want it but don't know if I need to buy it right away or not.

I keep reading that it is crash-prone. There is a patch for it already. I'm thinking Valve is holding for patch integration.

STALKER had the same problems when it first came out. You would think that they would have learned there lesson then.

And that was mainly the reason why it didn't do so well in Reviews, because it was crazy buggy. No less, the patch fixed things, and the game was incredible.

I am reloading it now to play it AGAIN. This well be my 5th 6th time playing it. I really do like the game just don't want to have to deal with all the headaches like the first time.

Hurry up and give a quick preview.

OK - I downloaded and starting playing the first level - then it crashed when I died.

The inventory control system is a little different than the original STALKER, but still similar.

The graphics are definitely better than S.O.C. Playing @ 1920x1200 with max details...but a little choppy. I'll kick the details down a bit to see if it improves. That's about all I can say right now.

Getting ready to start it up again - more to follow.
