While its of course a matter of taste, I cant understand anyone not thinking its very sexy considering the usual crap laptop chassis' that are still being pored out from companies.....

Carbon Fiber..... while Id have to hold it myself to see, I can only imagine its light and sturdy
Does AW offer Any led lcd's yet?
Arch,

I have to agree that it is a very nice looking machine. It comes close to hitting the 'sweet spot' of aesthetics, performance, etc. but it is not quite there in my opinion. If I were in the market for an ultra-portable, I might consider this but the U/P market is so overloaded with options now that it would take time to research all of the different offerings.

@Fidget ... the 1.6 / 1.8 GHz processor will be fine, just would prefer more, particularly for photoshop and a bit of multitasking. My husband just got the Asus U6 with a 2.1 GHz processor. I'm going to see how he likes it. The screen is actually a little small for my taste, which is why I keep leaning to the MacBook Air.

Work arounds for the optical drive are obviously not difficult.
Between you and your husband, and your two residences, you must make up a major percentage of the pc industry income...

I don't think so... Voodoo's own forums are dead, why do all the work for a forum that can't support itself. Not really sure you wanna attract Rahul to this forum, he's a bit of a tit.

Maybe a Voodoo subforum in the HP section?

Acer did the carbon fibre thing, it's pretty, but those that understand materials know the use of carbon fibre in laptop cases is cosmetic only. CF is not strong in bending, and once the fibres are compromised, you're screwed. Just adds to the cost. They have faux carbon fibre finishes now that look as good as the real deal for 10% of the cost. I'd actually have been interested in the Acer had it not been made by Acer, and had it offered better graphics.

If you put a slot drive and more horsepower in it, it will have to be much larger for both cooling and space for the drive. Personally I think it's stupid to have an ultra-portable that you need to lug around a bag of components to get full functionality.

I have yet to see a laptop that's sexier than the m9750.

Re: Hammer....

Good idea w/ the Voodoo subForum in HP!

On the other note.....
My suggestions of a drive and more horsepower were intended for 15 and 17 sibling models.....

If you're so inclined, I would much appreciate taking care of your 'hand-me-downs' and I promise to not let them get stolen at the airport.

I think we are trying to derail the thread, and HH is picking on me because I have too many computers

But everyone has been very well behaved!

As I recall, the U6 has a 12" screen. Check out the W7. It's got a slightly larger screen (13.3") which may be the sweet spot for you.

The Asus Lamborghini VX2 also uses exposed carbon fibre weave in its lid, and it had pretty good specs when it was released. It's really expensive, though.

If you mean derailing a thread by senior forum members is well behaved....

Sorta back on topic:

I used to work with carbon fiber about 10 years ago. We used it to make orthotics (prescription shoe inserts.) The stiffest material available at the time was carbon fiber impregnated with acrylic. Sheets 1/16" thick were use in demos where we would take a hammer to it at trade shows and it wouldn't break. We would give podiatrists a free pair if they could break our demo pair with a hammer. No one could. . .

Oh come on, archalien. It was a joke - it's the norm for threads to go slightly off topic after page 1, but wasn't really trying to derail your thread. Everyone has been quite civil, even though it is a stretch to see why this topic is posted in the Alienware section and not the General notebook section (but you made your point that you wanted comments from Alienware users, and it seems folks have given you some decent comments).

Seems to me this string is as relevant as the topic is to this section.

Perhaps you should post this in the Voodoo section...

I wasn't concerned, HH ... I know my computer collection is a bit excessive. But, also feel it's reasonably well deserved after working for 35+ years ... a good example for the young'uns just starting out.

Back on topic ... I really am looking for the perfect notebook, haven't found it yet. I'd give the Envy +++ for style, the MacBook Air +++ for being thin (and running OSX), the Dell 1330 for having killer performance in an albeit slightly heavier package, the Asus U6 for power and performance in a tiny package, but my heart still goes out to the m15x for a killer gaming machine in a reasonable package
