Open speculation thread- New mackbook pro

Man I am so hyped with the new macbook pro coming out next month or so. Apparently its redesigned and will feature the moteniva processor with 9600m gt graphic card. I am curious on the price though. I don't have the sky is the limit budget, unfortunately. I think the highest i can go is 2,200 usd max. What do you guys think on possible pricing of the new mbp

When a new version of an Apple computer is released, traditionally it keeps the price of the previous version or the price is lowered.

Also, the MBP was just updated in February. Chances are another update—or at least anything more than a processor bump—won't be out until around September at the earliest.

Not sure why people want to see a design change for the MBP. I think it's perfect the way it is.
people just want to know if it is possible. nothing is perfect or absolute. thank god for evolving design.

With the launch of new line mbp and iphone, july is going to be exciting month for apple either way. ^^
post #6 of 20
i dont get it. what source are you looking at that makes you so certain there will be a new mbp that soon?

hahah, i'm speculating, thus its a speculation thread. The monteniva chips are launching in July and many makers are leaning towards that time to start launching their new laptops. I am assuming apple is on the same boat. I am assuming late July or sometime august for the launch to occur. Again this is all speculation and guess work. I don't think there is much credible source on any possible launches as apple is also good at keeping their mouths shut.

I honestly don't think anything will come out next month. Apple usually doesn't release stuff on the top of more stuff. They like their products to have their moment and when the buzz dies down is when a new product may be mentioned and hype starts again. I also read that the new chips will be aimed towards the MBA since the speeds will be slower than the current MBP speeds.

Also, currently they are having the Back To School promotion until September 15th so I don't think they would release anything new until this promotion is over.

I personally like how the MBP's look. Even if you have a PowerBook you can't tell the difference from afar so it keeps those older models still looking like new . Plus, I just bought a MBP recently so I don't want to see it get redesigned.

You know what I agree with you from the looks of it next motnh release is very doubtful. I'm now thinking somewhere in September or even Oct. I really want to upgrade my comp right now but i can't settle with 8600m gt, need a new vid card such as the 9600m gt. So i guess i either keep on waiting till then or look elsewhere.

Quicker access to the hard drive. The MBP is one of the very few laptops left on the market that make it a big PITA to access the drive. If it weren't a big deal, the stats would be the other way around. :-)

HDMI ports. The DVI to HDMI adapter cables produce poor results. HDMI is the standard now, and large TV's are cheap: An HDMI port is a must.

Those are the only two things that I'd like to see for sure.

To tell the truth, having done it about 15 times recently, getting access to the HD takes 2 screwdrivers about about 10 minutes. It isn't that bad.

I hear you, but you have to admit that 2 minutes is better, and not having to take the laptop apart to do it is nice. I yank the drive out of my XPS2 (10 seconds) to take it somewhere as an external drive from time to time. Very convenient.

Clearly Apple knows that it's an issue, as one of the things that is changing for sure in the next version is that the hard drive will be accessed similarly to the way it is in a Macbook. Nobody makes take-it-apart-to-get-to-the-hard-drive laptops anymore.

I read a thread somewhere in which someone told their story of the Apple service center charging them $600 in labor to swap out the drive. Insane.

Hmm that is why I do my own non-warranty work $600, might as well buy a macbook for that.

I haven't been in mine other than the initial hard drive upgrade. Do you happen to remember if it looked as though a 12.5mm drive would fit in there?

I could really use the space while I'm waiting for SSDs to catch up.

This is a photo I took when mine was open months ago. It looks as though a taller drive could fit. I'm going to open it up tomorrow and measure to be sure. 500GB in a laptop would be very useful to me.

Scratch all of that.

Samsung has a standard height 500GB 2.5" drive.

In the wise words of Homer, "I'll take ten!"

I don't think a 12.5mm fits to well. I threw in a Samsung myself(And have removed and replaced it several times, long story) which I believe is a 9.5mm IIRC. I think I have heard a few times that the 12.5mm won't fit to well.

Dang did the Samsung 500gig ones hit? I bought one just slightly to early, but I needed it for a project.

On that "waiting for SSDs to catch up" bit:

512GB SSDs Announced for Q4

I think I'll wait for this instead.

I wouldn't expect 512GB SS drives anytime soon, they just said it shoudl support up to that. Not to mention the price of that as well.
