budget 1080p LCD tv..... Dynex vs Olivia.

Thread Starter
I need your input guys. I am shopping for a budget HDTV (under $1k) in the ballpark of 37" to 47". And found 2 particular units that look very promising. But I need your inputs
these are direct competition: 42" 1080p LCD units. and specs / # of eah input also seem analogous (mainly). The Dynex's virtue is (that after tax) it is $150 cheaper. Since it is a Best Buy brand...the OEM is ??? as is build quality. Olivia has a pretty decent reputation (for the market segment it is in....do not compare to top tier brands like Samsung or Sony)

First candidate is the Olivia 2 Series : ($829 + tax...$902.63)

The other is a Dynex: ($779.99 - 12% rewards coupon + tax....$746.46)

Despite the higher price I must say I am leaning for the Olivia....however, should I actually give the Dynex a chance?

I can't look at the detailed specs due to my internet filter at work.

FWIW - TigerDirect is having a blowout on flat screen TVs. I believe they had the 40" (could be a 42") Vizio 1080p for $799.

Compare the response times and contrast ratios. Or copy and paste the specs here.

I am in no way threadcrapping on this deal but i work for bestbuy and the tvs that are sold that are dynex have lots of issues. Work in the geeksquad and we have to test them out. I know that it is cheap but we are here to save money, if you put out 800.00 dollars for a tv and it craps out it doesn't matter how much you saved you still lost 800 dollars. I am just trying to say spend a little more for a reputable company this way if you have an issue you are covered

most tech. websites agree that their is almost, or no difference in quality between 720p and 1080p, in sizes below 50 inch. so you can save some more bucks there or maybe even move upto 720p from a reputable company, say samsung.
