M17x - too excited - damn Phases - Page 3

Yeah they had problems with the illuminated cases I was told but I do a lot of coding at night and have always needed a backlit keyboard so it's worth the wait. By the way, It finally made it to Phase 8 just now so it should be shipping soon!!! Pics/Vids to follow...

Is anyone getting the Dual 8800 GTX's in the m17x? Or does it make it too expensive?
It's $700 more than the 8700's. I'll swap mine later. The performance is about 50% better over dual 8700GT's from what I've read so it's worth it to some ppl.

i personally think its too expensive since the 9xxx series is out now and real soon the 9800 GTX should be out and i think that would be a better choice since its suppose to be better than the 8800GTX and less heat

dont expect the 9800 cards to be in a laptop by alienware any time soon... or it may not at all for the m15x or m17x....
well i dont have to get it from alienware (sager usually uses the same form factor as AW as i figured out not too long ago) and well about drivers there will be drivers around... some mods here and there to modify it from the sager version to alienware and well itll be a fun project if i do ill put the log up here

Last i heard Sager was going to build a 15" notebook with the 8800mGTX just like the m15x. i guess that changed... their newest 15" (NP8660)will offer the 9800GT, but AW will still be the only 15" notebook (ever) with a GTX GPU
From what i've read, the 8800m GTX still blows away the 9800GT. I'd love to see someone release a 15" with the 9800GTX

Well someone really humped the bunk with my order. I got an e-mail today from AW saying they received my payment...even though I've been on Phase 4 for the past three weeks! I shot 'em a reply asking essentially, "WTF?"

officernick, I wouldn't worry about the payment received notifications. I received about 3 of them also at various times. I don't think you should cancel at this point since the major delay has already been dealt with (the keyboards). It would be odd to cancel now that they will begin production soon... hang in there! I've been waiting 64 days. You can do it.

I have it in my office at work. It is so sweet. The quick touch buttons seem to work fine. I was worried because of what everyone said about them. You do have to push them rather than simply make contact with your finger but they work every time. There is no eject button on the blu-ray burner which is odd. You have to press Fn+F8 to eject it. TV Tuner has no signal in my building which I'm bummed about. 3dMark score was 10,209. CPU Score 2,381. Doom 3: 124.4fps
It feels good. Not flimsy but it is gargantuan. Slightly thinner than my XPS but wider and deeper. Alienware sent me the wrong backpack though. I originally ordered the Odyssey backpack because Orion wasn't out yet but I changed to to Orion a few weeks ago. They sent me the Orion messenger bag which I don't like at all so we'll see what happens there. Everything else - great!

Ok so it just hung on me and then wouldn't turn back on.... I had to press the alienhead power button like 12 times before it finally came back on..... not good....

ugh no... not good
lol i did the same thing when i got my m15x. there is no push, you just need to place your finger on the alien head to power it on. Same thing as the PS3, it just registers the heat from your finger and powers the system on/off. dont try to press anyting .
also, try holding your finger on the head for like 3-5 sec if you have that problem again.

hmm, ok. Although after playing with it some more it seems that I do have to push and I am more sucessfull if I push on the right side of the head... This thing is still really sweet though. The volume slider and all four of the buttons work really well. The only one I've had trouble with is power so far. The 500Gb smart bay drive came unformatted which I thought was odd. The hot swapping between 500Gd HD and Blu-Ray works really well. The camera looks great also and speakers sound good although they don't have quite the same lowend response or volume as my older XPS does. Still a really great box. I'm pleased.
