Another possible program is Acronis.

I may end up troubleshooting with you. The website says they charge a 15% re-stocking fee which, for me, is $900.... I sent them an e-mail. Waiting to see. If they take it back, I'll buy an M1730 instead.

The problem is that when I try to load Vista Ultimate from the DVD, it fails. When I load XP, it fails. The only option I have is to begin with the Alienware image which is stored as a 9Gb partition on the SSD's... where to go from here?
whats the exact failure? if its the same on XP install too, sounds like you need install (f6) disk drivers. During the XP install does it fail and say "no hard drives found"?

been cracking at it for awhile now, no problems with the BD player. been trying stuff as old as terminator 2 to 300, all 3 pirates, superman returns, national treasure 2.

all work great, i'd check out your hive and check the software you're running.

Just curious, but why are you not wanting to work with them to either get the unit repaired or replaced? It could just be a lemon unit. It happens.

It probably a simple fix it would be stupid to run into a little problem and then oh well I just buy a different brand... a 1730 could have the same issues...reinstall the drivers from alienware and check all settings to make sure everything is properly done...

It's not just one little problem. Also, there is no fixing the SLI problem. I spent a good deal of money on Dual 8700M GT's which are KNOWN to not function correctly under Vista Ultimate. It says so on Nvidia's website and there is no patch available yet. Alienware continues to sell them regardless.

I'm basically fedup with Alienware. It took me 2 weeks to even place the order because they didn't have my zipcode in their systems. My zip code has existed for over a year and no other company I've dealt with has this problem. Then, After I ordered the machine and it was delayed, I got the run around for about 3 weeks from them. No one could tell me why it was delayed or what the problem was. I was told "we don't know". I called 3 times in one day speaking with different people and each person gave me a completely different story about what was happening with my machine.

Now, after the long wait, it ships with the wrong bag, missing parts (TV Tuner adapter cable and no antenna), burnt out LED, and bluescreening. I mean, give me a break. I paid $6,477 for this machine and the company couldn't care LESS. That's really what's upsetting me the most and it why I will just return the machine and get a Dell.

I could go out with details about my experiance but I think you get the point.

I work for a government agency and, in our department, we purchase about 200 Dell machines/year (laptops and desktops) and never have this type of trouble. I have bought personally from Dell in the past also and get the same quality and concern.

All I've ever heard about Alienware has been great regarding their quality and service. My personal experiance has been completely the opposite. Google alienware customer service sucks and you'll be surprised at the number of people who feel the same way.

It's like when a mechanic buys a new car. He does that so it will work properly without him having to work on it... same thing here.

AW is trying to correct that. I have a suggestion, contact their roswell crew and explain exactly what you did in this post. the whole point to roswell team is to correct your exact issue. You'll get a personal agent (i'd do email) and they have been great.

Please understand, its only common human nature to "vent" when something goes wrong. All those post on the internet are only from those who had a bad experiance. those who had a great one (like what you heard) normally dont bother to get on the internet, make an account at NBF etc, and post how wonerful their AW is. But when things go wrong, people will want to vent, and the internet is a great way.

well im sorry to hear your having all those problems packerman but i have to say i think its a lemon because my system has been working great a few hitches here and there but those were Vista problem and there were fixes online for them. I really think you should try and work it out because its a great system once you start using it. well anyways i got a video up of my unboxing on youtube and well since my mother had to bring it from america and the box was HUGE she kinda had to take it out of te box but she brought everything so its kind of an unboxing without a box heres the link enjoy
