The slides below have been around for a while, and I initially hesitated in posting due to questions regarding their validity. It seems, however, that they may indeed be relatively accurate.

More and more information about the soon to be launched Radeon HD 4800 series is surfacing as we approach the launch date, which is still to be determined. The latest to hit the web are a couple of slide that show the performance of Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 in comparison to their respective nemesis, GeForce 9800GTX and 8800GT/9800GT. Of course, AMD comes out on top in all benchmarks, but they do it with a higher than expected margin. Radeon HD 4870 whips 9800GTX by a 40% margin, while 4850 outpaces 8800GT with the same number. The tests ran at 1900x1200 with 8x anisotropic filtering. It really does seem like the AF problems are fixed. Do remember this is AMD's in-house testing and the tests may of course be cherry-picked. You can find the slides posted by Donanimhaber</U> below.

Kudos to AMD for not screwing with the y-axis, unlike some other...

So a coupld 4870's in crossfire should be a big step up from an 8800gtx...

Do you guys know if crossfire performs well, better than SLI? And it will work in the X48 mobo, correct?

Will work on the X48, don't know about how it performs though.

Crossfire traditionally scales better than SLI - and 2xHD4870 should smoke anything up to and including any G92.

From what I've read lately, crossfired 4870s are gonna be top dog - that is - until the release of the 4870x2.

Are the 4870x2's going to be able to be crossfired? Quadfired?

Yep. GbrillaintQ and Dave-P are both going the quad fire route with 4870s.
