Are you familiar with the gotta-go-out-'n'-buy-an-external-floppy-drive method? I'm going to search for this too as I'm looking to downgrade (or upgrade as I see it) my a300.

there is no other link for downgrade a205-s5855 found on this notebook forum. i think its a harddrive compatibility issue. any one able to offer assitance?

u need to collect all needed XP drivers first, search for "a205 xp" will give u threads/posts to where u can collect drivers and then go from there.

no no i understand that the point is when you try to load the xp installation disk via F12 on the start up screen it says that it can't find a harddrive to install onto. i have no idea how to fix this problem and don't know if its a harddrive type compatibility issue or what not. the drivers should come only after the innitial windows xp installation is complete.

help anyone?

Yes - I finally found out how to do this (from someone else on this forum) -

As you boot up go into the BIOS and look for a HDD setting that you need to change from AHCI to Compatible mode.

AHCI seems to be a Vista thing.

Setting this to Compatible will enable XP install to see the Hard Drive!

That's it!

cool stuff thanks!
...and here i am deleting my harddrive, which is still going after 16 hrs of erasing..silly me

the AHCI --> compatible mode cannot be found in the BIOS. help please?

Well, on my A300/M00, in the BIOS ("InsydeH2O Setup Utility"), under "Advanced", right down the bottom of the list there is "SATA Controller Mode". I press Enter on that and I get to choose Compatibility or AHCI.

Can't speak for anyone else's BIOS of course, but I hope you can find this setting, otherwise you may have to go out and buy an external floppy and do the "press F6" thingy.

whats the F6 option?
When you first start installing XP on a freshly formatted drive and the first message you see is something like "press F6 if you want to install third party SCSI or RAID drivers" .... that feature is supposed to work for SATA drives aswell, but you apparently need a floppy drive with laptops.
