wireless not working & shutting computer down

Thread Starter
I have a Dell 8600 who's wireless stopped working a few months ago. It would go to a blue screen saying Windows is shutting down my computer to prevent damage, to check all new software and hardware. I did a clean restore, even changed harddrives, took the ram out and I was still getting that blue screen up. Usually happened when Windows was starting up and sometimes after using the computer for a minute or 2. Finally I disabled the wireless and that bluescreen stopped coming up. I'm using it with wireless disabled and plugged directly into the cable and haven't had any problems, so something is wrong with the wireless.

First question is it possible to fix this? Does it sound like maybe the wireless is just loose and would be able to fix?

Second, I was thinking of just getting a inexpensive USB or wireless card, since this is an older laptop I don't want to spend too much time or money on it. Would a USB or external card be better?
What type of card works with this laptop model?

Thanks for any help!

The Built in wifi card is underneath one of the access panels on the underside of the system. Very easy to get at, and relatively inexpensive to replace. You can usually order 802.11g Mini PCI Cards for $30 or less.
