Inspiron 630m Clicking, beeping but NOT in SAFE MODE

Can anyone confirm that a clicking and high pitched beeping coming from the right hand side of my laptop is imminent hard drive failure (followed by BSOD)?
Also, why doesn't the noise happen when I am running safe mode?
Is system restore worth a try?
