Problems need Solutions

Well Ive had this laptop from Alienware for about a year. Everytime I try to run programs that require a high amount of memory like Sony Vegas for example the laptop will get louder (the fan noise) and then shut off. Also this computer doesnt feel very fast. I've done all the basic stuff you can do, cleaned up, defragmented, changed the paging file, etc. Also what should my paging file be at? Is there anything else I can do to make it faster?

Heres the computer info

Intel Core 2 CPU
T5500 @ 1.66 GHz
980 MHz, 0.99 GB of Ram

Running on Windows XP

Normally when a system shutsdown when gaming, it could be overheating. Make sure the fans and vents are clean, use a can of compressed air. if the issue persists contact tech support...Please PM with account info so that I can check your system's info.
