pcg-k45 screen dark in Windows

Trying to install fresh XP onto PCG-K45.

Install goes normally until the system starts up windows, then it seems to turn off the backlight of the LCD.

Same thing happens when installing Vista.

Haven't tried any form of Linux, maybe that's the way to go, or maybe there is some custom video driver needed for the install to work OK?

Maybe it could be some really weird hardware problem than makes the screen turn off backlight when resolution goes higher than 640x480? I can sit at the BIOS config screen all day, so not seemingly an inverter or other more common hardware problem...

Tried Fedora 9 also, works fine until rebooting into xWindows... Something makes me think that the vid is failing when going into some of the higher resolution modes, but working OK up to maybe 800x600 or so (whatever the Fedora install uses as default... kinda looks like better than 640x480)

Also, the video signal going out the VGA port gets turned off at the same time the LCD screen goes dark.

can you reactivate with the FN key, to see if the signal can be "resuscitated"?

cheers ...
