Upgrade Inspiron 9300 (old laptop) 80gb to 320gb...

I recently bought a Western Digital Passport Elite 320GB 5400RPM 2.5 Drive

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=408

My problem is my motherboard hard drive serial connection is different than the new hard drive connection.

I was going to swap my 80gb out for the 320gb but I end up seeing the port there is designed differently.

Could anyone show me some info about this. Because I have no clue about hard drive SATA serial port being changed or I bought the wrong thing...

Thank you!

The early 9300 had IDE. The later ones were changed to SATA.

You bought the wrong thing. You can't connect an SATA hard drive to your notebook. The largest-capacity IDE/ATA-6/PATA hard drive you can put in is 250GB, and I believe it, like the SATA drive you bought, is also made by Western Digital.

All right thanks... I guess I'll keep it as externally then. I'll see about my future laptop more like 2015+.. lol that time probably over 500gb stock HDD.
