Dell XPS 1530 HD noise?

I read a review on another website that claimed there was considerable noise from the hard drive, due to the case construction or something. Has anyone noticed similar disturbances, and how loud is it really? I can't imagine it could be worse than most laptops... Also, I read everywhere that the slot loading DVD drive is very noisy on starting up a disc: is this ONLY when starting, or does it come and go whenever the disc is in use?

the hard drive i haven't noticed any abnormal noise from. the loud noise from the optical drive is just from the loading mechanism, when the disc is in the machine it isn't noisy

1330 is essentially the same model just smaller,

from my experience the HD is indeed a little noisy, but I mean it's really nothing to complain about, just a very VERY quiet ticking almost. The slot load mechanism is to be honest annoying to me, it's a pretty loud noise that happens upon startup and upon disc insertion...i personally wish it was quiet so then you could start up without someone looking at you like "wtf was that"

please note: disc inserting/mechanism noise is only about 2 seconds long

You can hear the hard drive, but I wouldn't go as far to say that it was loud or distracting (or abnormal for that matter).

One benefit to the slotted DVD drive is that some tray-loading drives will vibrate when the disc is spinning... the slot-loaded DVD drive is pretty quiet while in use in comparison (in my opinion).

I have gotten the "wtf was that" look pdonket mentioned when starting up a time or two before though...

Hi,

My dell xps 1530 doesnt have any such issues. There is very slight sound or noise from HD which is quite ignorable. And Dvd too works pretty smoothly without making any disturbing sounds. The review you must have read could have had problem in their piece. Dell has addressed this issue of noise in models released prior to xps 1530. Hope this helps.
