I have an Acer Extensa 5620 and this is my problem:
The short cut for selecting a block of text "CTRL+SHIFT with an arrow key" does not work the way I have come to believe it should from all the other computers I have ever used.
Usually I press CTRL+SHIFT and then use the arrow keys to select/delselect a block of text, while using the arrow keys right/left I am usually able to select/deselect a word and then, while still pressing CTRL+SHIFT another word, and then another and so forth. The same procedure applies with the up and down arrows but for paragraphs instead of words.
On my Acer I am only able to select a single block (like one word or one paragraph) and then the functionality freezes. If I keep punching the arrow key it often eventually moves another step but seemingly after a random number of punches, sometimes two, sometimes ten, sometimes not at all, etc.
After having had the unit for service twice for this issue Acer has finally come to the dual conclusion that:
a) this is a Vista problem, talk to Microsoft and
b) I “must let go of [the] Ctrl+Shift keys each time the arrow key is pressed” and this is the way it is supposed to work.
Since I write a lot this is a short cut I have some to rely heavily on. I would greatly appreciate any and all input on how this is supposed to work, who is right and who is wrong and what shall I do about it?
Thank you all in advance,
Theo
