Asus M6N vs Compal

Thread Starter
Ok guys. I eliminated the A64 from my 3 notebooks to choose from. I am trying to decide between the Asus M6N and the Compal (also known as the powerpro 5:6). Here is my list of top requirements for my laptop. Give me which one you think I should buy that fits me best, not you, but me. Any and all feedback and help would be so amazingly appreciated.

1. Battery Life
2. Speed and Performance (max processor I will buy will be the 1.6ghz)
3. Gaming and DVD playback
4. No structural flaws (if it is the Asus then I will buy the widescreen to avoid the gradient issue)
5. Sound coming through the speakers
6. No overheating
7. They both weigh the same so mobility isn't a problem.

Ok guys. Take your pick and please please please I am begging for responses. 1800 is a crap load of money and I don't want to just throw it away without reassurance I will be buying the right laptop for me.

I have to say thank you to everyone who has put up with my questions and PMs about laptops. Everyone has been a huge help and you have no idea how much I appreciate it. Some of you saved me from buying crap like Dell and leaded more towards the good stuff. Thank you and this is the final chapter.

1 - The M6n last for ~ 4.5 hours when trying to conserve bat. ( e-mail, internet, word processing/developping ( if you're not compiling too much)
2- Speed and performance - haven't had a chance to compare the two, but if they would both have the 1.6 centrino, then I doubt you'll see much of a difference between them.
6 - Heat hasn't really been an issue for me with this lappy ( the M6N)

good luck in your choice.

To buy one of those where do I go??
http://www.craplikedell.com ???
<grin>......sorry!!!
(((Just finished with Dell Hell myself. Had their "ultimate" warranty (Complete Care) on a notebook. Video problems. 4 LCD replacements, 2 motherboard replacements. 5+ weeks and still NO properly working system.)))
Interested in the advice you get, those are 2 of my 3 choices, plus the hypersonic-pc CX6. Any reason why I/you should not get that one, or did I miss some negatives on it?? For a company alone, ASUS would have to be my choice (and may be my final choice) if you get the true ASUS branded (not rebadged) system. My fear of buying from a "3rd party" is that they won't survive the warranty period. Buying a true ASUS would solve that problem, since they aren't going anywhere. If you want a 15.4" widescreen, then you are down to one choice (ASUS). If you want a higher res. 15" with a kickass video card, the Compal. I know, I know, I didn't answer any of your real questions, but maybe I helped somehow.

it's hard to give you an answer because I haven't owned Asus one, but I can give you my feedback about Compal

1. Battery Life (decent, 2 hours of gaming, 4.5 of regular use)
2. Speed and Performance (get 1.6 performance not much different from 1.7, but it's a lot cheaper)
3. Gaming and DVD playback (gaming and dvd playback been great so far)
4. No structural flaws (just the backlight, but other then that, Compal has a great build quailty)
5. Sound coming through the speakers (don't expect much here from Compal)
6. No overheating (when game it will get hot just like any other laptop, but HD temp doesn't go up by much)
7. They both weight the same so mobility isn't a problem.

yeah 1800 is a lot of money to me as well, consdering that I should have bought nicer car instead of laptop, (still driving an old '91 Civic ) but I think I made the right choice about getting Compal that should last me for at least 2 years, then might get something else

I have a Compal CL50 under the ULTRA brand name and the ASUS M6N. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I prefer the ASUS over the Compal only because my ASUS has a 15.4" screen.

I will be getting one of the laptops from www.discountlaptops.com.

I might consider www.powernotebooks.com if I can configure one for better pricing but for now discount has the best deal with the best rating from resellerrating.com
