Intel PRO/1000 CT NIC

My M675 is connected to a D-LINK 604 router via the Intel PRO/1000 CT NIC. Every once in a while after the M675 resumes from standby mode the NIC gets error code 10 in device manager. When I try to start the driver in device manager the NIC shows error code 43 in device manager. This usually only happens after the notebook has been in standby for several hours, but it doesn't always happen. The only way to recover the NIC is to reboot.

I unbridged the NIC and also installed the latest PRO/1000 CT device driver from Intel (v7.3.13.0), all to no avail. Even contacted Gateway CS ...(yeah, I know).

Any ideas?

Well I figured out the problem and am curious if this is happening to anybody else. After the M675 resumes from standby the Network Adapter's IRQ assignment has changed from 18 to 10. IRQ 18 is a shared IRQ when the notebook goes into standby and IRQ 10 is free. Upon resuming from standby the interrupt for the NIC is moved to IRQ 10. Intel documents state not to put Network Adapter's on shared IRQ's. Duh.

The solution offered by Gateway's wonderful tech support: reboot!

My solution: Purchase 1 yr on-site tech support.

Will keep you posted...

After getting Gateway CS to admit there was a problem (took 14 emails and my suggestion of purchasing on-site support), and after considering their request to return the notebook for repair (meaning 1-2 months w/out the notebook), I decided it was time to troubleshoot this myself.

Cause of problem was Plug-n-Play was enabled in BIOS. Microsoft says don't do this on XP.

Case closed.

Gateway m675 Intel Pro/1000 CT NIC locks after standby

I tried turning off plug and play on my bios as you advised and this helped the problem but didn't solve it.

My network card still locks up (no led activitiy no network connection) occasionally when resuming from standby and the IRQ is still set to 18 and shared with the USB controller as it was before the lock-up.

When I try to analzye the network card properties using the control panel (when the network card is locked up) my computer becomes unresponsive and very slow forcing me to reboot.

Any ideas for jump starting the network card without rebooting. Disabling and enabling the network card locks up Windows XP.

Thanks for any help.

have u looked into ur NIC properties to see if the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option (if u have it) is UN-checked?

cheers ...

I confirmed that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option is UN-checked?

I am still having trouble with NIC not being operational after my computer resumes from sleep.

Any ideas on a utilitiy to restart the NIC so I don't have to reboot?

Thanks

Still having this problem. I tried the two utilities above. Both utilities never finish running when the network card is not powered up after resuming from a suspend.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks
