Your thoughts on this replacement laptop?

OK, about 4 years ago, I picked up a Toshiba P25-S676

3.4GHz P4
80GB
512Ram
17" Screen
DVD Burner
Firewire
TV Tuner
etc.
etc.

It was pretty much the king ding-a-ling of of its time and since it had EVERYTHING built in, it fullfilled my every need

Now, a couple months ago the charge recepticle came loose and I would have to bend the plug a certain way to get it to work

Since it was still under the 4yr system guard warranty, I sent it back to Toshiba and they replaced the recepticle, the A/C adaptor and even replaced the dead battery with a new one

They sent it back and she was good to go, but a few days later I noticed the battery wasn't charging anymore

Sent it back and today they called up saying that because of the laptop's age, it wouldn't be economically feasible to repair it

So instead they're going to replace it with new one that they would consider equal or better value

This is the one they want to send me:

Now, I'm clueless when it comes to processors, so how will the 2.2GHz AMD dual core compare to my old 3.4GHz Pentium?

So far, everything looks decent, but my only gripe is the lack of a TV Tuner (sumthin I used quite a bit with my P25)

They're also giving me the option to renew my system guard warranty on the new unit since the current one expires next month

My other option is to take a pro rated store credit of $800 bucks and put it towards a model of my choice, but that doesn't really get me much at all

The Turion CPU in the replacement should be around 60% more powerful than the Pentium 4 you had in your system. It's a significant performance boost.

looks like they're treating you good. you might ask if there is the option of adding a tv tuner if you're willing to pay for it.

Well, yesterday they said they would be shipping it out and that they'd call back with a tracking number...

They never called back, so this morning I called them and while they were transferring my call, it showed up at my shop

I must say, it kicks ass compared to my old one, but Vista is so F'in confusing

Gunna have one of my puter geek buddies hook me up with an XP downgrade lol

Make sure you have all the required XP drivers for that model/equipment config saved prior to uninstalling Vista. You also have the option to dual boot, meaning both OS's on your laptop in different partitions. Might be the sensible way to go until XP is up and working 100%. If you have a large enough HDD just leave them both on the HDD. Then you have the best of both worlds.
Using the ERecovery icon in the green bar, make sure you make a Vista recovery DVD in case you need it down the road, before it gets deleted
