Quick power on then back off. Anything besides a short?

I am building a custom frankenrig and I got to my first test boot today... it powers on for just a second, then powers back off. Is there any reason for it to do this other than a short?

I have never personally tested any of the components, they all arrived from different sources and were supposedly tested and working before they shipped to me.

Did you remember to fasten down the CPU in the socket? I do this for a living and even I forget to do that on occasion.

Also, it would help me if you told me what sort of frankenrig you were building, like what parts you used and what model you're building.

I have an m90 base, used
used Intel 740 cpu, supposedly working
brand new RAM, never tested
geforce 7800gtx from an XPS2, sold to me by a guy on the forums who had it installed in his m90
used hard drive, I've used it before myself, it should work
LCD from an i9300; I disconnected this and attempted to boot with no LCD, problem still persists.

I haven't put a lot of effort into troubleshooting yet, just kind of wondering what direction I should point my attentions next time I've got the time to muck around with it.

Thanks.

Alright, I re-seated everything and am 99% sure there is no short. The fans do not power on and all of the LEDs light up for about 1 second before they power back off. Sounds like a bad mobo to me. Anything else it could be?

If you KNOW you got the CPU fastened down then all I can say is you got a DOA board. If your seller is reputable getting a refund or exchange shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, I even held pressure down on it while turning the screw, it's definately in there. Contacted the guy I bought it from with no response so far
