Lenovo T61 or Dell XPS M1530?

I'd like to buy a laptop. I am hesitating between Lenovo Thinkpad T61 and Dell XPS M1530. Which one is better? Does Dell has the heating problem? Previously I proned to Lenovo due to its durability. But I checked cnet.com, I saw many reviewers did not give high grade to the Lenovo T61.

I need to get the Vista Business edition. Would an upgrade to the Vista Ultimate version be very useful? By the way, Will a 17" monitor laptop be too heavy or is it a good buy due to its larger screen?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

. T61 model is good, overall
. Dell XPS is also good, overall
. reviews nowadays are pretty lame. it is up to u and speak to the peoples that u know that have epxeriences with either machine
. vista ulitmate is cool, but business version is fine for many many users
. 17" is heavy, but large screen is always good for the eyes. Depending on what u are going to use the laptop for

Thank you very much for your very helpful response.

I decided on the Lenovo T61. I'll customize it as Intel Core 2 duo processor 2.5 GHz 6MBL2, Vista Ultimate, 15.4 WSXGA +TFT, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M(128MB), 3GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2DIMM), UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) (Is it better to upgrade to Fingerpint Reader?), 160GB Hard disk Drive, 7200rpm, No intel turbo memory hard drive cache, DVD recordable 8X Max Dual Layer Ultra Slim, PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot (What is a Smart Card for? Is it better to upgrade from Express Card to Smart card?), Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN mini-PCIe US?UMEA/LA/ANZ (Is it better to upgrade to Intel wireless WiFi link 4965AGN (supporting Centrino Pro)? Is it also better to upgrade to a Integrated Bluetooth PAN instead of without bluetooth?)

Any input is greatly appreciated.

i personally leave the smart card and fingerprint alone for a while, when u first get ur new toy.

upgrading to an N wifi card makes sense since eventually everybody will move toward better signal outputs. I am not too keen about integrated BT. Sure it is convenient, but the limit of devices (or must we say, pain to work with) make the external BT module looking more practical. I hope to see this changed eventually

Thank you very much for your assistance. I'll take your suggestion and upgrade the WiFi card to the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN.(supporting Centrino Pro).

I forgot about the warranty issue. The laptop comes with a one year depot warranty. Is it better to extend it?

It's said the new Thinkpad slim model will come out very soon (mid 2008). I might wait one more month to see what it would be like.

Thank you.

extended warranty is alsways a good issue. thin model is in at the moment, u might want to look into other brands as well
