Acer Aspire 2000 VS ASUS M6N

The Acer Aspire 2000 has been my laptop of choice to buy. I came here and I found the ASUS M6N. It seems to compare to the Acer but being lighter. Can anyone compare these two and state pros and cons? Especially of the M6N since I am new to it. I know enough about the Acer. I think it's the best, but this M6N looks good so far.
Also, where can I get purchasing info on the ASUS and also some detailed pictures and/or reviews? A good unbiased review i.e. I'd love your help. Thanks.

I use three notebooks. The Acer Aspire 2000 (AS2003MLi), Compal CL50 under the ULTRA brand name, and the ASUS M6N. Order of preference:

1. ASUS
2. ULTRA
3. Acer

In my eyes the ASUS and ULTRA are neck and neck. The only difference between the two is that my ASUS has the 15.4" screen.

Things that I do not like about the Acer:

- The Acer screen does not seem as bright and has a tendancy to get dim and I have to manually increase the brightness by using the function keys on the keyboard. I would kind of expect this on battery, but not when it is plugged into AC power.

- The Acer has a mirrored strip below the left side of the keyboard that gets smudged and dull looking after your hands have been touching it for a while.

- The touchpad mouse clickers are very loud, and become distracting when in a meeting or in another quiet setting.

Good things about the Acer:

- Price. It was about $300 less than the ASUS, and I put the ASUS together myself.

- It has a DVD burner that doesn't have a tray. It has a slot in the side of the notebook so you do not have to worry about breaking the tray off.

- Built in Wi-Fi AND Bluetooth.

I'm still in the process of running battery and performance comparisons. As soon as I get some reasonable data I will post it here.

Good luck and Cheers.

Thank you. I await your response. Where can I get some review or photos of the ASUS though? It also seems to have the same large screen as the Acer and it is lighter right? But it doesn't have the slot loading DVD/CD-R? But is that really a problem on the ASUS? I heard someone complaining about problem with the ASUS screen, but it was fixed if you use the 15.4" screen?

Where can I purchase the authentic ASUS M6N and the Compal? Compal's site doesn't show me any purchasing info or photos. I just want to see more of these. If any of the two outweighs the Acer, then I might consider it. I am not paying more than $1800 and less would be nice too.

A standard tray-load optical drive on the M6N isn't a prob at all. In fact someone here noticed the other day that the M6N tray has a bottom ledge on it to provide support when loading discs into it, something not many other models offer apparently. I guess if I had to pick between the two formats I'd prefer a slot, but it's really just not that important either way IMHO.

The screen issue is limited to the 15.1 SXGA+ models, and at that not all of them have the prob; I have that model and it's fine.

Also you can see some user pics here at the beginning of the really huge M6N thread.

And I got mine from rjtech.com, link: http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant....ory_Code=ASUSN
