This move makes me wonder how those people feel that paid $429 for the 9800GTX when it was initially relesed...or stepped "up" from a 8800GT/GTS...

Hoping to divert some attention from AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 4850 Nvidia is preparing a new member of the GeForce 9 family, the GeForce 9800 GTX+. The upcoming card is basically an overclocked 9800 GTX with a great price tag - just $229 and it will feature a GPU frequency of 738 MHz (675 MHz on the 'regular' 9800 GTX), shaders clocked at 1836 MHz (1688 MHz) and 512 MB of GDDR3 memory likely 'still' at 2200 MHz.

Due to the introduction of the 9800 GTX+, the GeForce 9800 GTX will go down to a $199 price point. No word on when the + cards will hit the stores though.

Well it's alright, I mean considering you could've bought the 9800GTX (8800GTS) like 7 months ago anyway.

Geez...

Wonder if eVGA will put it on their step up list. If so, I can trade up, and they'll owe me money!!!

Actually, Step-Up won't work like that. They won't CHARGE you for the Step-Up, but you'll still have to pay for shipping, just not the card. They won't give you any money back.

Well the day of launch they sold at $329. They have dropped about 60 bucks since then. I don't see the first adopters feelin too bad about it though. The first few batches of cards had some great clocking chips in it. Most that I've seen/have do over 800 core without a problem so they are still sittin fine imho. Had they been $429 at launch then yeah, ouch .

Here is a random invoice I pulled to make sure (couldn't member off hand ). It's dated 4-1-08 so was day of or close. That was an egg invoice.

I thought they were $429...musta been reported in an article before release (never looked at 'em on the e-tail sites).

But still, $200 bucks for an OC 9800GTX is a sweet deal IMO...

Revealed yesterday, the $229-priced GeForce 9800 GTX+ should arrive in less than one month but those interested in what's it all about don't have to wait that long as a first performance preview of the G92b-powered card has already been posted.

The 55nm-built G92b (pictured) helps the 9800 GTX+ reach GPU and shader frequencies of 738 MHz and 1836 MHz respectively and these, coupled with 512MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 2200 MHz enable Nvidia's upcoming card to put up a good fight against the Radeon HD 4850. For colored charts and actual results check out FiringSquad's preview.

A comparison of the 55nm G92b and the 65nm G92-420 found on the GeForce 9800 GTX

I agree. It's great to see some good competition in the 100-200 range for sure. It's going to be a very competitive segment which is good for the consumer .

I'm in a dilemma now, specifically in my preparations for Far Cry 2. I have one 8800 GT KO right now, and I was planning on a buying another one and running SLI. But the cost of an 9800 GTX is so low now I'm considering getting one those instead.
