problem with my Gateway MT3422

Thread Starter
I own a mt3422 and a couple of months ago I went to turn the little bugger on, and it locked on the post screen... I waited for a couple of minutes to make sure, and then tried to power it down... even held the power button for about 10 sec. to do a hard shutdown... eventually had to unplug it from the wall, and then remove the battery. I then proceeded to plug everything back in, and pressed the power button to try to fire it up again... this time, it did not even post... the external power indicator light was on, showing that I had the power cord plugged in, but the HD light only quickly flashed once, and the dvdrw light flashed twice, thus showing that they were getting power, but alas... no post... anyway... I was able to do a "hard shutdown" this time, and then hit the power button again with the same result... I did this sequence one more time... just to make sure, and voila... pay dirt... it posted, and booted up, just like it had for the previous 7-8 months... approx 3 weeks to a month later... the non-post thing happened again, but no matter how many times I have tried to turn it off and back on again... It does no good... so... I started to troubleshoot the hardware... Well, I have since taken out the hard drive and put it into my desktop using my drive adapter, so I could more easily access some of my documents on it, and nothing is wrong with the HD... I have re-seated the ram, and wi-fi card... I have checked the connections for the dvdrw drive... basically, I have opened the little bugger up, and done the basics... I am assuming that I have a bad chip on the motherboard, and might be willing to replace it once I know the actual make and model, and that the problem is not just a bad bios chip, or in/out put chip... If there is anyone out there who could advise... I sure would appreciate it... thanks... BlacJAC
