Vista's not bad--I'm running it on my m1530--but it doesn't really bring enough to the table to justify the slightly larger cpu footprint.

Go with Doughy's suggestion.

Based on your hardware specs you exceed both OS's asking tools.

Just comes down to which you prefer

XP is Faster

I'm dual booting XP Pro (SP3) and Vista Ultimate 32 bit (SP1).

XP hands down. I rarely use Vista. I use Fangui in both OS and the fans never stop working in Vista, but rarely in XP. My 1710 runs so much smoother in XP as well.

I actually bought the XPS with Vista pre-installed and then decided to give XP a go about 2-3 months ago and never looked back. I'll keep Vista there, "just because", but I don't see myself using it any time soon.

The only difference is MCE Has Media Centre built in, if he wants sp3 he can install that anytime. And the original poster has not mentioned XP Pro so i assume he has got XP MCE SP2 disc.

To be honest this one is down to a matter of opinion. Some people prefer the goodies Vista ushers in over the performance increase that XP provides, some don't. The way I see it, if the system can run both pretty well (which an M1710 should) then it's all down to what you prefer.

I actually like some of Vista's features that make life simpler so I have that on 2 of my 4 systems, and 2 have XP. It's all down to preference
