wlan/internet connectivity issue vista sp1

i recently bought a gateway p-172S fx loaded with windows vista home premium that comes with Realtek RTL-8187B wireless 802.11b/g.

i had trouble keeping a constant connectivity between the laptop and the router i have set up in my house.
i notice it only happen when doing some heavy traffic over the network such as playing games, updating server list, opening web pages full of images, and so on. if i let my computer idle i can keep the connection connected.

my roouter is dlink dir-625 hardware rev A1, loaded with the latest firmware 1.09.
i tried numerous things such as using different drivers on the Realtek.
removing/try different security system wep/wap/wap2
disable ipv6
run it on wired connection (works perfect)
other wireless computer/laptop that is connected to the same router works perfectly( but they all on windows xp and macosx)

my question: is there such things as router compatible vista?
cause when i did some research the dlink dir 625 is vista compatible for hardware rev c1 only.
i wonder if this is the cause of the unstable connectivity?

please advise

Hello, when you say not keeping constant connectivity what is happening? Are you loosing data packets? Is it taking longer to load a web page or are you seeing pauses when loading a web page? What is your signal strength? How far away from your router are you? Any thick walls ? Sometimes it is hardware and sometimes it is software. If you have already loaded the latest drivers for your Realtek than it is possible that you have a weak wireless card. I have had a brand new laptop with a top brand wireless card in it give me trouble. I replaced the card and the problem went bye bye. If you can get your hands on another wireless card like from a friend and try it, you would know if the card is bad or not.

cool, some one is responding lol
pretty much everything that is connected to the internet would loss connection. such as aim/messenger/ventrilo/my games.
signal is strong, i try sitting right next to it and the problem persist.
i pretty much loaded every single driver possible on the wireless.
windows update/realtek.com/gateway website.

one thing i did was to install windows xp on the laptop.
i ran steam server update (its a game client).
in vista i would loss connection to the router and it would reconnect.
in xp i can keep constant connectivity.

i understand sometimes wireless get some slight packet loss but for some reason in vista i get a huge packet gap that would pretty much kick me off from the internet.
but in xp there is only a couple packet loss. depending on the range between the roouter and the laptop.
(i ran cmd ping to my gateway roouter)

soo im pretty much confused whether it is hardware/software incompatibility or my network card is busted.
but if its busted how come it can keep constan connectivity when im not using it lol. pretty much only disconect under useage or loads.
cause i dont want to send this laptop back for service and having the same issues when it comes back.

thank you

. if ur card works under one OS and not the other, then it is pretty much drivers related
. how about trying different channels for the connection under vista?
. did u have other wifi connects going at the same time of ur comp? if yes, try to limit it to just ur comp and see

cheers ...
