Slow system and cdrom while cd-rom running

This just happend. CDrom seems to be really slow. Everytime I try to play someting or copy something of cdrom it plays very slow or copies slow and slows down the system taking up most of the cpu usage.

any solutions? please help thanks

. just happened - have a restore point?
. run a virus scan?
. verify that DMA is being set in the controller

This happens on my 5630 a lot too, it's got to the stage where I'm ready to just ditch the drive and try a different make, having a read around some forums it seems the drive Acer use causes problems on other manufacturers too (TSST TS-L632D).
Not sure whether to go external drive or just a different internal drive

****UPDATE 13/07****
I have replaced my drive with http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145255 and now have no problems with dvd burning, playing or dissappearing!
