m15x --> VGA Projector

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
Hello,

I am trying to find some way to hook a m15x laptop into a projector that has only a 15-pin VGA cable attached to it. The projector is ceiling mounted in a classroom, so we have no control over what cables are hooked into it, and are thus stuck with the analog cable only. Also, the cable run for this thing is pretty long. I've seen links to a device called the HDFury, which would take the HDMI output the m15x and covert it into a vga signal. However, it sounds like this solution does not have a cable driver on the analog side, and would have difficulty driving the signal to the projector over the long cable run. Does anyone have any experience with any of these devices? Any recommendations? Or at least a place to start looking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I have not tried it, but in theory you can use a VGA to DVI converter on the projector's cable, then a HDMI to DVI cable from the m15x.

What video output ports are available on the m15x? What distance are you trying to cover?

That video cable for basic DVI to VGA adapter that came with the machine, just hook the projectors cable (Longer). Then go to display settings and select to either mirror or just dedicate screens.

You should have the driver since it is a default setting.

There is only an HDMI out for video on the m15x, there is no such thing as a HDMI to VGA adaptor that i've heard of. i'd go HDMI -> DVI -> VGA adaptors.
