7900GS why are clocks resetting

Thread Starter
I've got my 7900GS flashed so I can change the Clockrate, but the drivers I'm using I guess are causing my ATI tool to reset the clock settings I put.

I used: This site to flash

I set the slide and hit "set clock" it just resets to 375/507.

I'm guessing it's the drivers. I had some drivers that would let me do just the memory, but I'm looking to get both memory and core. What do you think it is?

I feel like somehow it isn't flashed anymore. Not sure, I know I flashed it, but I can't get it to respond to overclocking at all.

Computer Info:
OS: Vista
Video Card: 7900GS

Sounds like you have a Rev 1 card

Drivers can play a key role in which rom you need flashed to your card in order to software OC. I'm assuming you flashed your card with the "unlocked" rom so what drivers are you using?

If you did flash with an unlocked rom you will have to use a driver 169.04 or earlier. The newer drivers work only with a standard rom.

I even confirmed that I'm running the BIOS modification. I've got "791GSUNV.ROM" for my REV 1 7900GS.
I even tried with nTune to do my overclocking and I still get it all reset after I make the adjustments and hit apply.

Flash back to the stock (original) BIOS and use a different driver. Give 174.31 a shot.

If I flash back to stock bios I won't be able to overclock for sure.

You will be able to overclock with drivers newer than 169.04. Like I said, give 174.31 a shot.

Take a look at my thread called GPU lock for more information. And note that you cant simply rely on driver numbers to tell you how new a driver is. But as Tony said, the 174 series is newer than the 169.

Hrmm.. I installed the 174 drivers and double checked my BIOS is in fact unlocked using the JIAN unlock and I still can't adjust my overclocks.

Any idea what's up? I have Vista if that changes anything.

Guess I should try and go back to default stock ROM?

Hey I am having the same problem.... Originally I was able to overclock the card, then I upgraded (if you can call it that to vista) and since then I haven't been able to overclock either, same problems that your having. Now I've gone back to XP and I still can't overclock... the slider keep going back.

I'll say it once more. You NEED to have the STOCK (ORIGINAL) BIOS for the card in order to overclock with newer drivers.

Alright, back on stock BIOS. Is there anyway to get the 1.2v on my card so I can hit higher numbers?

Also I still can't up my Memory Slider, it still resets.

Same with me, back to the original bios, but still to effect with the overclock. It always resets. I've now tried all bios from the JuanLa including stock and nothing will unlock the overclock ability.... what else can I try?

I can give you a rom that is always unlocked but has some repercussions dealing with power management. Just tell me which card you use and PM me your email address. Also, which drivers are you guys using anyway?
