So I disassembled my z70va and replaced those GPU thermal pads with big gobs of AS5 and it's much quieter than before. So that part went well.
My problem is that there's a big insulated wire that runs along the left-palm rest side of the laptop that doesn't have any obvious place to go so that it doesn't get stuck between plastic parts of the two chassis sides when they're being put back together. Thus creating a big bulge on the left side of the laptop.
The wire was taped down in just the right position when I first opened it, but I had to remove it to finish the disassembly. When I retaped it after finishing my business, I must have slightly moved the big wire out of its original spot, because when I put it back together I noticed the bulge, so I tried at least 15 times to retape it in different positions, but all of them left a bulge. I wound up just finishing the construction because I was taking up too much time, but the bulge is so bad that it causes the right click of the touchpad to always be pressed in (and thus unusable) in a seesaw-like effect.
Has anyone else who has taken apart the z70Va ever ran into this wire problem? The guide and chassis markings leave no clear indication of where one should tape down this wire.
The only other thing that could be causing this bulge is the built-in microphone, anyone ever have a problem with that?
I'm going to take it apart again, but I fear I'll just run into the same exact problem, seeing as I couldn't fix it the first time.
thanks
