Sound Stuttering Problem with M1730

I just got a new M1730 as a replacement from a burnt up M1710. It's awesome, but I've been getting occasional sound stuttering problems. When listening to Itunes every once in a while it'll get a weird crackle. I don't have that Audigy Software. Well, I have the cd, but it came with Vista and I reformatted to XP so it doesn't work. Right now it's running on the stock Sigmatel drivers off of Dell's website. This is a pretty big problem as I use this laptop for live music. If anybody has any solution that would be sweet. Here are some of the specs.

T8300 @ 2.4ghz
4 gigs of ram
XP SP2
8700m SLI
200 gig 7200 rpm hd

does the stuttering on happen when you use itunes? or does it do it all the time? i used to have this problem when i had vista installed. itunes ran like crap, and windows media player would crackle so to speak from time to time. since i reinstalled xp, i've had no probs at all.
