Trying to dual boot Presario C500 laptop with Vista/XP (Vista already pre-installed). Have created 5Gb partition but when installing XP, message says that "Set Up did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer". Only option is to quit [F3]. Can anyone help please ?

probably a typical sata driver missing at loading XP. u can either get a sata driver, or disable AHCI inside the bios when installing XP.

5gb for XP? kinda tight, dont u think?

cheers ...

Many thanks for the reply, I will investigate your suggestion and let you know ASAP. Re partition size, dreamincode.net suggests "at least 3-4GB, so I thought that 5GB would be OK, but with SPs & updates, etc., you will no doubt be right. I will increase that before proceeding - thanks meantime.

Success! Thanks 'qhn' - changed SATA Native Support to 'Disable' under System Config. in BIOS and XP loaded OK. Partition set to 8GB.

Hello. Basically, yes. I disabled SATA native support but have not located drivers so far, as laptop works OK and I find MS website a nightmare to locate anything - often lose the will to live. I used other drivers that I had already, modem, soundcard, etc. However, next time I would try to source a Manufacturer's XP 'downgrade' disc as that presumably would contain all the drivers.

Yep, MS download site can be a bear with so much "stuff" to wade through! However, I would not look there as much of a source for drivers for your notebook anyway! Much better to nab as much as you can from the manufacturer's (HP) site. Anything that you can not find there, then should be gotten through the individual hardware maker's web site.

Unfortunately, as the C500 came pre-installed with Vista only, there are no recovery discs available with the right drivers, for XP.
