M17x is here, and oh boy.........

Hello all,

I have ordered my M17x on 5-30 right before I went on vacation to Europe, and after 3 weeks it showed up at my shop. Since I just got back, I am now getting to play with it.

So, my first impression.............................. holly shit!!

I have been an owner of the m9750 for almost a year (which I am selling now, see another post on the forum), and I decided to upgrade (I know, I know, why, well, I am a computer nut).
This notebook kicks some nice butt, it has some real nice feel, the illuminated keyboard and other things are nice too.
Attached are the specs and scores from what the techs did before shipment.
I have however upgraded the RAM to 4 GB

I will take pics tomorrow and add them to the post.

As of right now, this notebook works fantastic.
Lets hope I will not have any issues with it, like my friend has while playing WOW (locking up).

If it locks up its on WOW it is not your computer but WOWs system we all have issues with them.

Unless there is something more you would like to see.
It has 3D Mark Score and more

I have noticed that the GPU fan is rather noisy, a lot noisier then the 9750 notebook. Wonder how they are going to get after 6 months of using them.

Very nice! it really does look like the m15x's big brother!

Have you had a sec to check out the GPU behavior i.e. downclocking, Powermizer enabled after reboot, etc? I’m very interested if it behaves the same as the m15x, which I’m willing to bet money on 

I have not downclock it, but i will try the Powermizer enabled, will let you know.
What is happening with the m15x?

also, is there a way to have the LEDs on the keyboard dim if it is brighter outside? trying to make sure they will not die despite the 2 year warranty i have.

I explained a workaround with the GPU powermizer thing here.

Basically, first if you disable powermizer from the nvidia control panel, then reboot, is powermizer automatically enabled after the reboot? I'm almost willing to bet yes

If you're interested in what’s going on, I’d load Nvidia's ntune (this is a Nvidia supported feature)
You'll see some new options within Nvidia control panel including Launch NVMonitor. This will let you view you GPU clock speeds and monitor its behavior.

If you check out that other post, you’ll see what I’m talking about

They are LED lights so chances of them burning out is extremely minimal. At worst they would become disconnected, and changing the brightness would not affect this.
Otherwise you can open Alienware FX lighting and change the touchpad to a dimmer color.

Congratz! Seems like one awesome machine!
