as opposed to say, voodoo, which aren't marketed to corporations?

IBM T and R (maybe G and X) have titanium in them -- last you long time. IBMs also have a non-perforated layer in between the keyboard and the components, so if liquid is accidently spilled on the notebook, you can just turn it upside down and shake out the water. Dell's and most other's are perforated. and speaking of keyboards, if a person can't tell the difference between a thinkpad keyboard and a dell, there's really not much else to say.

I agree that the thinkpads are superior however the money they want for there machines are a little off but the technology they posses is great I own a T30 and its an awesome machine very durable and featureful however the 3100 price tag doesnt seem liek it was worth it which im glad my company paid for not I.

Well i would ask ur Girlfriend how much pounts is she willing to carry. well my girl ideal laptop is the sony with the screen size 10.6". she like small and battery then everything she dont care. u should ask ur girl cuz im sure if u get ur girl an 9100 the weight about 10 pounts im sure she not going to like that. but an 600M is a very good choise. Or if she want something lighter then go for the 300m but keep inmind that battery for the 300M suck big time.

i was looking for a laptop for 3 month and i found the best bang for the buck was dell. IBM too much and they dont even offer Things for 3D games. not that his girl need it but is something to have (for when he goes over or something lol). anyway toshibas look Ugly (My Opinion) and compaq dont like and HP just an overpriced compaq. voodoo and alian are alittle too much also. Never head a sager so i never looked in them but there u go. Gateway to much money for notting let just put it like this dell just had the sweeties laptop for the best price.

Thats exactly right, I found the same thing when looking for my machines. Dell tend to have the high-end specs you want for the price you can afford (well, at least afford more than other manufacturers).
And really, the i8600 and others in that D series look very nice and sexy... at least when closed, when open you see that blue trim, if they'd made it silver like in the D800 or M60 then we'd be talking. If t was a little more sturdy then it would be perfect IMO. But as I mentioned before, i8600 + Graphite Swirl = Babe magnet.
(I know I'm baiting the Bamboo eaters, but whatever)

Lol, I will now tell you the horrible story of the origin of that term, listen only if you dare.

Not that long ago, on these very boards, there was a fierce battle raged between Bamboo quicksnap owners (namely .andrew.) and Graphite Swirl owners (namely myself). This battle raged across many a topic, with numerous Haiku's fired in anger, with no winner ever emerging, as is always the case with war.

Somewhere there, between my insults that "bamboo is Panda food and not decoration", I coined the term "bamboo eaters" to explain those supporting the bamboo quicksnaps (and those whom follow AFL may know I have adapted this term from "Crow eaters" to denounce Adelaide fans).

And thus, forever will they be known.

End communication.

Alright guys, there are great deals on the 600m until tomorrow night, so I am going to show her and her parents what I have configured tonight and let them sleep on it.

Turns out UofM has awesome student deals for software, so it is not even an issue. So, right there, huge price slash taking Office and XP Pro off the list.

THe only issue I might run into is the gf kinda wants a widescreen after she's seen my 9100. I tried to explain to her that it may not be necessary, and it will probably not be cheap, but if she has to have it we will look at the 8600.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out, and thanks again for the help!
