Dell m1530 for light gaming ??

Thread Starter
Currently I own a very nice Sony laptop (purchased only 4 months ago or so) - nice, except that it has no dedicated video card. As such, I am considering the purchase of the m1530. I am anything but a heavy gamer, but would like to be able to play many of the newer first person shooters and RTS games.

How is this laptop for such use? This is my anticipated configuration.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800MHzFSB, 3M L2 Cache)
4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA TrueLife LCD
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor

I'd like to know how this configuration would be at handling games such as those I mentioned. Everyone seems to talk about how much nicer the 17" Dell is for gaming as a function of its better video card. However, from the checking I have done, it would seem that none of the games of interest to me require a video card more robust than that which comes with the m1530.

How limiting might this video card be with future games? IOW, how close are the current crop of games to requiring a more advanced card than the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT? I would certainly have this computer built with a more robust graphics card if it was possible, but that is not an option on this laptop. Sure would be nice to know when Dell might offer the next level up in graphics card in the 1530.

I would appreciate hearing comments from those more knowledgeable than I. Thank you in advance for your help.

Wow..... 56 views and no ones got an opinion, are people to scared to share their point of view or something these days?

Molarman.....IMHO you will be fine for a couple of years with this......crysis is the biggest ask of a graphics card currently and you would be able to play that at half decent settings even native res if you turn the shaders and shadows down to low and don't get carried away with other quality settings.....all depends on what your expectations are....its no 8800SLI,but its fine for the average person.

If you can wait a couple of weeks,we should have a better idea what new stuff is coming out with montevina notebooks....9600GT etc.

BTW,nice hard drive,I'd like one of those
