M1330 Backlight Problem

I bought a 2nd hand M1330 knowing it had a backlight problem. I've fixed laptops before, but I haven't really dealt with this issue, so I'm asking for advice.

From what I could Google about backlight issues on laptops, it is usually the power inverter that needs to be replaced, or the backlight lamp itself.

I ran the Dell diagnostic and got two errors: 2000-0413: LCD Cable Not Detected, and 2000-0322: Error accessing LCD inverter.

Sounds like the inverter is bad, right? I'm trying to diagnose this properly before I spend money to fix it, so any help is appreciated.

Yes, if the system cannot communicate with the LCD Inverter than that is most likely where your problem lies. Inverters aren't too expensive either last I remembered. You might also want to disassemble the screen first too to make sure the cable is connected properly.

Thanks for the info. Expensive is relative From what I could find, inverters run about $80 - $100 for an original Dell part. I just found a "replacement" inverter for a fraction of the cost (about $25 shipped). Should I be worried about using a non OEM part? Honestly, I plan to fix this laptop and sell it, but I don't want the next owner to have more problems just because I wanted to save a few bucks.

if the seller of the inverter can give you some assurance that it'll work with your LCD I don't think you'll have an issue.
