Nothing but problems in the search for a laptop

I just bought a new alienware m15x, yay (or atleast should be)

I got it with the 2.6Ghz processor 8700M video, 4 gig ram, and Windows XP Pro.

I take it out of the box, and the integrated ethernet doesn't work. I figgured that i could get back to that issue, and i'll keep testing it.

Then i find out that the bluetooth drivers won't let my mouse nor headphones get paired correctly.

After reformatting 3 times, I finally did a reformat from scratch, and got drivers from the device manufacturer's websites to get things to work.

I also had an issue where the ribbon for the touch sensative buttons got dislodged, so i had to be talked through the re-hookup of it. (their first reply was that i should reformat)

The the blue screens of death started to happen. That's when i knew i was in for it.

25 days into ownership, the power button stopped working at all. The only way i could get it to turn on is through the emergency switch on the bottom when the cover is removed.

I just shipped the laptop back to alienware, and had them extend the return period for 7 days after i receive it back.

My fear is that i will only continue to face problems with this laptop. I have never owned an alienware before, and so far have not been impressed by the hardware nor the terrible tech support that $4000 buys.

My question is, do you think that they will get it fixed, and everything will be fine, or should i be looking elsewhere, since i can still return the laptop for my money back?

I am not really sure what else to be looking at in the laptop department. I like the battery life i get between the 2 batteries, and the power it had when it was working.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks,

matt

u were just unlucky. Any brands/models would have a lemon (some might have more) once in awhile, but overall the manufacturers are keeping up with the quality control. As long as the warranty and support are good, u r doing fine

cheers ...

ok.

I guess that i have had a couple of bad laptops before this, so i was just worried that here i go again.

Plus, i leave for school on august 21st, so i need to have everything resolved by then.

Personally Id return it. Thy problems out of the box is not a good sign.

I just got the laptop back from the factory...

i fire it up, and the touch pad doesn't work... So much for testing...

I am on the phone with them right now, to see what they say.

I am now really worried that things will never work.

I just got off the phone...

they claim it was a corrupted driver.

we reinstalled it and it started to work again.

so it was the driver the entire time?

Nah, first they replaced the motherboard at the factory, then when i got it back, the system worked except the touchpad, but loading the drives fixed that.

I have run a few burn ins, but on internal and external graphic modes using si-soft sandra.

no failures!!!

what other things should i try to put this thing to the test

Well, i think this laptop is a lemon...It hasn't worked correctly from the factory.

I guess that alienware's systems normally have to work, or else they can't charge that much for computers.

But this system still doesn't work, so i would need a brand new system, from scratch, to feel comfortable.

Plus their tech support is bad (whats new, but i was hoping for more)
