Best 11.1" notebook money can buy!

No I am not telling you about one or making a sales pitch i am trying to find one...

I am the IT Co-ordinator for a company of 700 and the owner of the company is constantly travelling so he uses a 11.1" notebook for maximum mobility. But he's very unhappy with the current performance of his Portege Toshiba.

I've been told to find the best money can buy so i am in search of a notebook with 4GB or higher (although higher would probably be inexistant) and has the fastest processor to match.

Does anyone know where i should be looking in regards to this sort of spec?

I think Sony has some good 11.1.
Here
I myself use a 12 inch n find it more useful.
However, it's up to "Da' Boss"
He shouldn't be disappointed with the performance of the Sony.
Does the toshiba use a single core or duo?

I can't believe they wont put a faster processor in those Sony's... 1.2Ghz, really... at leasts its dual core

I'd highly recommend taking a look at the LED screens if you're looking for a small size. the Asus 12.1" notebooks offer it and a very current processor

Also, you said 4GB or higher. Unless you run a 64Bit version of Windows it can only use up to 3GB. it is common to sell systems with 4GB and they can only use 3GB, but dont buy any more.

Uhh what is your boss doing that he's "UNHAPPY" with the performance?

If he is doing the basic stuff:
word processing
pdf
email
itunes

Pretty much any Intel powered Dual Core/2gb ram combination should be sufficient to handle all your daily tasks at once.

Most likely the culprit of all of this is the SETUP of the machine, there's probably too much crap in the machine.

Here are some pointers:

Strip out as much of the unnecessary programs as you can - especially as much of the annoying "CUSTOM" software

Stay away from Vista Ultimate (aka vista bloated), I'd probably stay with XP Pro

Make sure SPEEDSTEP type technologies aren't neutering your performance completely. My dad's Pentium M was actually slowing itself down from 1.8 ghz to 333 mhz which isn't enough speed to use notepad!!!

Stay away from McAfee or Norton for anti virus - use a more frugal resource anti virus like KASPERSKY

I'd probably recommend the following:
Lenovo Ideapad U110
Dell Latitude D430

Have you considered the Macbook Air?

Also, whatever laptop you consider getting, consider also a Solid State Drive - that will help with battery life as well as response. It will add to the bucks but in the end if he's happy that's all that matters.

Vista really needs 4GB ram to be snappy. Also, make sure you're running 2x1 GB sticks in DDR2. If you're running 1x2GB in a single slot configuration, you don't have parallel access, so it is significantly slower.

Speedstep is a huge deal on notebooks. Using Speedstep smartly has extended my battery for an hour. What you need to do is use something like Notebook Hardware Control to manage your Speedstep manually.

In my experience with desktops, Kaspersky has been quite resource heavy. I recommend NOD32 v2.4. The NOD32 3.0 is pretty crappy ever since they stuck that new and neutered GUI on it. Both versions use the same virus definitions and heuristics, so they are equal in terms of protection
