Satellite 5105-S702 Touch ED error message during bootup process

When I bootup my Satellite 5105-S702 laptop with the Computer Associates (CA) Anti-Virus software v8.4.0.24 turned ON, I receive the following error message near the end of the bootup process:

TouchED Error

Retrieval of THotkey" failed
Occurred Part - TouchED.exe - THotkeyFindProc( )
Failed Function - FindWindow( )
Error Code - 0x00031402, 0x00000002

However, when I turn OFF the CA Anti-Virus software and reboot the laptop, I do not get the error message.

Therefore it would appear that the CA AntiVirus software is causing this error message.

Would appreciate if anyone could advise if they have experienced this problem with this model laptop, or the 5105-S701, or the equivalent European model 5100-603, and how they rectified it.

Thank you

It probably would be more helpful if you went back to CA with an email enclosing the exact error.

Or if it is a such annoyance, just replace your Anti Virus software. Cheers...

Satellite 5105-S702 Touch ED error message during bootup process

Rodarapan

I have conducted some reboot trials with various CA AV software On/Off (i.e wrt real-time scanning), and real-time scanning exclusion settings (i.e TouchED.exe & 00THotkey.exe), and just when I thought that the trials suggested that real-time scanning of 00THotkey.exe is the cause of the TouchED Error Message problem, the problem seemed to disappear in the final trial.

The TouchED error message recurred again, after I installed Kodak EasyShare software v7 (KES7) (co-incidence ?), and this time was not prevented by real-time scanning exclusions of TouchED.exe &/or 00tHotkey.exe, or by excluding the KES7 from startup, but was prevented when I deslected TouchED.exe in the startup tab of the System Configuration Utility. Then when I reselected TouchED.exe in the startup tab of the System Configuration Utility, it still did come up again.

Since then I have been running the 5105-S702 laptop with CA AV on (i.e. real-time scan on), with no real-time scan exclusions, and with normal startup (i.e. TouchED.exe & KES7 selected for startup in Startup tab), and have not had a recurrence of the TouchED error message.

Puzzling, but I can live with this partial resolution to the problem.
I've been using the CA Anti-Virus software for several years, and found it to be simple / easy to use, with perhaps only 1 or 2 problems(e.g. false virus detection), and so far have been happy with it, so I'm not inclined to dump it at this stage, especially since the results of the trials are inconclusive.

Perhaps installing 1 or more of the "missing" Toshiba drivers &/or non-driver software items might be the real solution.
